‘Chino’ (Bruce Lee) LIMited edition tee by Tommii Lim.
Taken from Lim’s original 10’ show piece ‘Chino’ from his 2019 solo exhibition ‘ODD MAN OUT’.
“During my youth, growing up as an asian in LA, I hated Bruce Lee, he was a derogatory racial slur that kids used to call all the asians. The racism back then made me want to shun my heritage and conform to the 'norm' of America. As I got older, I realized how disruptive and important Bruce Lee was for everyone especially minorities. He showed me that my strengths lie within the individuality and differences that helps define who I am today. I learned to embrace and have pride in my Asian American heritage integrated into the American ethos. Bruce Lee was the perfect symbol to represent 'ODD MAN OUT' as ‘Chino’ is a reflection of the baggage I shunned as a youth transformed into the foundation of my existence today.”
